Job Prospects though Social Media
| Prof. Steve McCarty - 29 Feb 2020
Be it Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or LinkedIn – whichever app you use it has become about more than just sharing vacation photographs and posts. Today these social media platforms have grown in popularity to become important and powerful tools that you can use to promote your image in a particular way and make your persona appealing to potential recruiters and employers.
This also means that we need to be extra careful while posting and sharing stuff on these social media handles. You should ensure that you do not post something that can jeopardize your chances of getting recruited or come back to haunt you later.
So now the question arises that what do recruiters or potential employers look for in a candidate’s social media profile?
Well, 90% companies globally use social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn while screening candidates.
The social media profile gives them a picture of the actual personality and a better idea of the candidate than the resume suggests. Recruiters can correctly assess from the profile and posts whether the candidate is the right fit for the company culture - or not.
Deleting a social media account or not having one at all is not a sound approach as that amounts to making yourself invisible to the recruiter.
