GNIOT Institute of Management Studies (GIMS) was incepted in 2020 and approved by AICTE and the Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India as a management institute with entrepreneurial agility.
The Institute aimed to provide contextual learning and help in the development of students as thinking professionals, who can meet the future challenges of tomorrow's corporate leaders. It was a launchpad for tomorrow’s leaders to achieve the future they dream of. GIMS had the objective to take the participants on a journey where they could explore the best global management practices to build for themselves a sustainable long-term strategic advantage.
But Life is uncertain. Everything does not function as a thought. The year 2020 witnessed a different scenario in the world that has never been recorded in the history of any country in the world. Everyone was badly affected by the pandemic- Covid 19. Looking at the seriousness of the situation, the state governments across the country started shutting down schools and colleges. It was a crucial time for the education sector and even more for GIMS.The crisis raised questions about the value offered by the institute which included networking, social opportunities, educational content, and the credibility of the institute to provide a learning experience committed to the students.
The CEO of GIMS, Swadesh Kumar Singh, strongly advocated “Never give on something you believe in”. Under his leadership, the entire GIMS Team was driven to provide a high-impact, life-transforming learning experience to create visionary future leaders for the corporate world. The need of the hour was to reinvent learning environments so that digitalization expands and complements student-teacher and other relationships. While coping with the situation, strategies were being put in place to ensure high-quality academic delivery. Many challenges seem insurmountable and perhaps, the biggest one was the uncertainty about how long the disruption will last. But, when you can’t change the situation, acceptance and adaptation is the only choice.
Coping strategies were being put together. The instructors and the students had to make a move to online mode. The effectiveness of the online mode was a major concern for students and parents. But GIMS sailed through seamlessly with the technical preparedness of the institution and faculty to conduct the sessions using digital tools, Availability of content that can be delivered online as well as that can be weaved into online instruction, teaching pedagogy that is conducive to learning, an evaluation that is not memory recall based but learning-based and finally, mentoring of the students to be able to access and absorb academic contents online.
Developing skills and knowledge needed for crafting strategies for organizations to help them achieve pole vaulting growth stood as the priority for GIMS. Several Skill Augmentation certificates were organized for the students on Advanced Excel/ Spreadsheet for Managers, Digital Marketing & Social Media Marketing, Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), BlockChain, National Stock Exchange (NSE)/ Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), Marketing Analytics, Business Analytics, and HR Analytics, among other
The Chanakya Talk Series (CTS) was another initiative taken by GIMS to redefine the concept of training and development for the students. CTS acted as an interface between academia, and industry and meet with inspirational visionaries, and senior industry practitioners to learn from their rich, diverse experiences. Several corporate leaders like Dr. Arindam Sen (Director, HCL). Mr. Subir Verma (HR & IR, TATA Power), Mr. Raj Kapoor (Founder, India Block Chain Alliance), Mr. Anil Bhasin (President, Havells India limited), Mr. Richard John Masilmani (Ex-CEO, TIMEX), etc were few of the guests invited for the talks, to improve and target the right competencies for the students and the audience.
Online mode was no more a barrier for GIMS to develop skills and knowledge needed for leading and managing teams through Industrial Visits. Virtual industrial visits were organized for the students in Mother Dairy and Yakult. The industry exposure through virtual industrial visits helped the students to get an interactive and knowledge-intensive experience of the corporate world. These corporate visits enrich the understanding of students along with practical exposure.
Virtual Live projects for the students were an opportunity to work with groups and manage people effectively without much hassle. It gave sophistication to understanding group dynamics and ones’ responsibilities in a group. Live projects empowered students to gain skills that can be transformed into performance. It created euphoria and confidence amongst GIMSians.
In the second year itself, GIMS became a Certified Management Institute (ISO 9001:2015) and collaborated with different organizations of National repute like MOU with Atal Incubation (BIMTECH) NitiAyog- Government of India, Member of NHRDN (National HRD Network), Student Assessment Partnership with COCUBE (360 degrees), Associate Institute of Xavier School of Management (XLRI), Delhi, among others. The achievements of GIMS didn’t end here itself. They became the academic partner with the Council of Examiners- India for the International E-Conference on Examinations to be held in June’21.
Another feather in the hat for GIMS was the Paid Internship to the 100% batch. The companies that virtually visited the campus were Times of India, Intern Shala, ProHealth, Algorithmics, The Capital Box, Outlook Group, etc. A proud moment indeed for Team GIMS.
In the coming years, GIMS is geared up to build its legacy as a more resilient institution. The institute is planning to collaborate with MNCs for internships, live projects, and placements for the students. International Events and partnerships are also in the pipeline. Their vision is to ensure that all young people have the opportunity to acquire and develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values that will make them successful future leaders.
The current crisis tested the ability of GIMS to deal with large-scale disruptions and undoubtedly, it can be concluded that they succeeded to be the .academic leaders. It can be validated by the fact that the year 2022 was embarked with another achievement. GIMS became the first B-School in North India to be internationally accreditated by Higher Learning Accreditation Consultant & Training (HLACT).
GIMS has an academic partnership with IIMBx to offer a certificate program as part of the “IIMBX School Partnership Programme.” The objective of the partnership is to train students in the areas of management – data and insights, economics, finance, marketing, people management, operations, and strategy.
Carrying forward a legacy of the GNIOT Group, GIMS is honored to announce the successful completion of the Final Placement Process for the Batch of 2020-22.
